National Cocoa Day : 3 Ingredient Hot Cocoa Recipe + Hot Cocoa 3 ways

Happy National Cocoa Day ! Hot Cocoa is known, at least to me, as the official drink of winter. There’s just something about drinking a nice hot cup of hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies that really puts me in the holiday mood. I’ve always been a fan of store-bought hot chocolate mix, but being the DIY enthusiast that I am, I decided to make my own, by using 4 simple ingredients. This recipe is so easy you’ll probably never by the store-bought mix again.

3 ingredient Hot Cocoa  Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups sugar

Add some chocolate chips to make it extra rich!
  • 2 1/4 cups cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon table salt

**Warm Milk for serving**

Directions

  1. Pour sugar, cocoa, and salt in a large bowl and whisk until the ingredients are combined well. Store the mixture in an airtight container.
  2. For drinking, heat 1 cup of milk in the microwave or on the stove and mix in 2 tablespoons of hot chocolate mix.

** The mix will last as long as it’s kept in an airtight container **

So now that you have the recipe for homemade hot cocoa, here are 3 ways to liven up your plain hot chocolate.

1. Add gourmet handcrafted marshmallows for an extra bit of sweetness.

  1. Oh my I’ve never had the last one with cinnamon and cayenne…have you ever had it? I will give this recipe a try we usually do swiss miss or I’ve melted a bar of chocolate or milk chocolate morsels and added to warm milk but I like this dry recipe and the kids can help make it 🙂
