With Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, it’s time to get ready to be the “host with the most” for all of your out-of-town guests. One of my favorite things about the holiday season is having family and friends come stay at my parent’s home, in Georgia, for the holidays. Since moving to La, last year, I missed the big family Thanksgiving, so I am definitely looking forward to going home this year.
With the guest rooms filling up fast, I started brainstorming with my Mom on ways to get the house ready for our out-of-town guests. After going over the usual check list of items such as new bedding, pillows, towels, and so on, I still wanted to add something a little more personal….
This year, to make your guests really feel special, leave a welcome basket, in the guest room, filled with some of their favorite treats, toiletries, and other necessities to enjoy during their stay.
Here are some items you may want to include:
Toiletries – Take a stroll down the travel size items aisle at your local Target or CVS. You’ll find most of the items for under $2.00.
Snacks – To give your snacks a gourmet look, pour them in a cellophane bag and complete it with a bow.
Drinking Water and Coffee/Tea – include a cute mug, like this “Sip Slow and Carry On” mug, from Target’s new holiday collection.
Plush Towels and Washcloths – For an extra decorative touch, cut some ribbon and tie a bow around the washcloths.
Scented Candle – Try a nice holiday scent or something calming like the Henri Bendel, Vanilla Bean candle.
Additional items you may want to add:
Reading Materials (ie books or magazines)
Your home’s wi-fi network and password information
Cough medicine ( since it is cold and flu season)
A list of local points of interest
After assembling your welcome basket, place it on the guest room bed or bedside table. This is sure to be a pleasant surprise and make your guests feel right at home.
